Board Meeting

6:30pm             Erik (sitting in for Jennifer) called the meeting to order and introduction were made. Special visitors included Cathy Clemens, grant recipient for mental health drams.  (Flyer attached). Todd Morey, opening restaurant on Alberta.

6:35pm             The group reviewed and voted to approve June Minutes.

6:40pm             Cathy presented the summary of “Life Works”.  They would like to put on their 1 hour performance to bring awareness to mental illness.  Cathy is asking neighborhood associations for access to meetings or events to perform.  She is also seeking promotional ideas.  The group suggested that they attend other neighborhood meetings and check bulletins.  Also discussions were held over the idea of including the drama either in the fall general meeting or a KNA fall event, currently under consideration.

6:55pm             Christine presented the June Land Use committee report (notes attached).Christine brought the PDC/PDOT questionnaire for input on the NE MLK Jr. Blvd Gateway Heritage Markers Project. Terri suggested sending the questionnaire out via email to encourage neighbors to participate by contributing ideas for the project.  Terri to scan and email.

7:20pm             The group discussed the Good Neighbor Agreement and strategy to get it distributed to stores in the area.  Jennifer attached partial list of business to minutes.  Terri volunteered to couple up with Janice to drive the area to compile a more complete list.  Once the list is completed the suggestion was made that board members double up to approach owners with the letter.

7:25pm             Celeste Carey stopped in to introduce herself and encourage people to participate in National Night Out Party, Tuesday, August 7th. Celeste said neighbors can attend existing parties or plan their own.

                        NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

·         Heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention;

·         Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;

·         Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and

·         Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

·         Promote emergency preparedness awareness

7:30                 Todd Morey presented an overview of the new restaurant that he and his partners are opening on Alberta.  He said it is going in the old 1949 gas station at 11th Street and Alberta.  It will be called “Radio Room” and they hope to open in the Fall.  The hours will be 9:00am until midnight 7 days a week. 

7:50                 Open Discussion.  Christine wanted three items added to the next month’s agenda.  1) Planning for a KNA Fair. 2) MLK Marker Project participation 3) Problems with drug selling and protestation at 11 and 12th Streets at Wygant.  Christine’s neighbors had approached her asking for advice and assistance with the problem.  The group suggested that she tell them to call every incident into the non emergency number for the police.  Perhaps it is time to have Officer Sims attend a meeting?
