Open House Tuesday, Aug 5th: LifeWorks/Beech St. Apartments

Home Forward is partnering with LifeWorks NW on a development in Northeast Portland that will provide permanent apartment homes with supportive services and expand a culturally-focused residential treatment program, Project Network.

The development’s 32 permanent apartments, which will be reserved for graduates of substance abuse treatment programs, represent Home Forward’s first “dry” housing program.  The development also is part of the agency’s efforts to preserve public housing by replacing former single-family public housing homes with more cost-efficient apartments in multi-family buildings.

Patients released from treatment would be eligible to live in one of the 32 affordable housing units in the other wing. Once there, they would continue outpatient services at a LifeWorks Northwest facility two blocks away on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

And because of fair housing policies, Home Forward could not give preference to Project Network patients.

The treatment facility will include on-site affordable childcare, a playground, fitness room, computer library and community spaces, therapy rooms, and offices. Apartments will be available for move-in in August.

On-going resident services for LifeWorks NW clients living in Home Forward housing will include mentoring, group support, and case management. Using a single team to design and construct the two facilities into a single complex not only ensures design compatibility but also helps leverage public and private resources in the most cost efficient manner possible.

With availability of permanent, safe, alcohol and drug free housing, households recovering from alcohol and drug addiction can maintain the gains they have made in treatment, keep their children out of foster care, attain meaningful employment and continue the important work of rebuilding their families.
