From the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods:

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

With your participation and support, we engaged thousands of neighbors to work together on opportunities to strengthen the inner Northeast Portland community. And, we even had a couple of fun social celebrations!

Serving as a community resource hub, the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization, supported community members and neighborhood associations as they weighed in on timely and critical issues including the Portland Plan, Urban Renewal Areas, the Education System, City Code, Cell WiMax Towers, Police Accountability, and more. We helped neighborhood-specific efforts too!

For the first time, the Northeast Coalition provided a fresh and informative board training for city-wide leaders.

We re-designed our Community Committee: Safety and Livability Team (SALT, formerly known as PSAC) to work on a wide-range of issues and provided robust assistance to the Coalition-wide Land Use and Transportation Committee (LUTC)!

With direction from residents, the Northeast Coalition convened community forums, large and small, to better understand and advocate effectively on relevant community issues such as Urban Renewal Areas, Columbia River Crossing and Police Accountability.

Finally, the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods continued its legacy of incubating community initiatives to best respond to community needs through fiscal sponsorship and Neighborhood Small Grants. Here are just a few:
• Boise Eliot Outdoor Markets began with colorful art and opportunities for local vendors and local products.
• Boise Voices created a living history cd with youth interviewing elders for their stories.
• Community Youth Hotline added hundreds of resources for youth to find online quickly.
• Emerson Street Garden Project began to plan an artful twist with school children and residents making cultural and historical installations.
• Foodshare Fund Northeast, a project to provide matching funds to Oregon Trail Card holders, entered into a second successful season.
• Good in the Neighborhood Multicultural Music and Food Festival celebrated its 18th anniversary.
• Saturday with the Arts inspired youth to spend their summer break learning music and arts.
• Solarize Northeast, led by volunteers, galvanized interest in the neighborhoods in sustainable solutions and organized a bulk purchasing of solar panels effort.

We all have much to be proud of! And, still there is work to be done to address the issues facing our communities such as more livable wage jobs, affordable housing, strong schools, etc.

With your support, we can continue to serve as a community resource center to support civic participation and advocacy and incubate meaningful and effective community initiatives. Support highly inclusive civic involvement, livability efforts, and community initiatives in and among the Alameda, Boise, Concordia, Eliot, Grant Park, Humboldt, Irvington, King, Sabin, Sullivan’s Gulch,Vernon and Woodlawn neighborhoods in inner North and Northeast Portland.
