King Neighborhood to Host Farmers Market in May

farmers20market201_preview1King Neighborhood will be host to the latest Portland Farmer’s Market. The location at the King School, Park and King Neighborhood Facility will serve King and its surrounding neighborhoods. Portland Farmer’s Market (PFM) in partnership with the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) under the direction of its new permanent executive director, Paige Coleman are spearheading this project.

NECN is forming a King Market Advisory Council to provide feedback to NECN on educational programming at the market and to serve as a community voice for the market. To secure the continued success of the market requires the support of weekly shoppers.

What You Can Do:

The remaining hurdle is to get an exception to the zoning of the parking lot at NE 7th and Wygant which is zoned residential, to allow the market. Please consider submitting a letter of support for the market from yourself or your organization. Letters of support from the immediate neighbors of the market, showing that this cause is worth the increased car, bike, and foot traffic. We will encourage local residents to walk, bike, and use public transit.

  1. I am so excited about the possibility of a farmer’s market in the King Neighborhood. We are trying to teach our children to eat locally and in season. It is so great that you are making it easier for us to take up these principles – and within walking distance!
    Woo Hoo!

  2. I am very glad for the efforts of some dedicated people to this project. We are building a community. That’s how it works. We work together. We hold our hands and move together. We are a multicultural/multiethnic community. How sweet it is! Thanks for your work. I sense patience, there is love in there, there is understanding. Guess what–we will make it work. We must stay together. Please pass the cookies.

  3. This would be great for the community. It will provide more opportunity for neighbors to share news about the neighborhood and just simply to get to know one another. Good things like this bring the best out in people.
