Sabin CDC/Reflections Coffeehouse Technology Learning Lab Launch

Sabin Community Development Corp. in partnership with Reflections Coffeehouse/Talking Drum will launch their new Community Technology Learning Lab and we invite you to join us for coffee/tea and pastries. Meet Sabin’s new Executive Director, educational partners, volunteers and community members, it’s your chance to celebrate with us.
This partnership will include a free 3 station Wireless Lab, open to the public from 7am until 6pm and a 10 station Learning Lab for community training located in the Talking Drum Bookstore with a menu of services. Thursday, November 6th, 7:30-9:30 am.  Reflections Coffeehouse, 446 NE Killingsworth.  Corner of Killingsworth and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

 

Vanport Project Advisory Committee to Meet

Find out what is going on with negotiations to complete development of the Vanport Project on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Alberta and Killingsworth.  The heart of the King Neighborhood and the key to a vibrant commercial center, the Vanport Project has seen many false starts over the years and has struggled to land an anchor tenant to begin construction at the Alberta Corner.  If you can’t make the meeting, the Association has our own representative on the committee who can give us an update at the Association’s meeting.

The committee will discuss negotiations between the Vanport Partners and an anchor tenant for Phase III of the Vanport Project. In addition, PDC staff will outline the mitigation options for the Phase III site. Vanport Partners will update the committee on the status of Phases I and II of the project.

ARTICLE VI

B. General Membership Meetings: There shall be at least eight (8) general membership meetings yearly. General Membership Meetings shall take place in January, February, April, May, July, August, October, and November.

ARTICLE VII

I. Board Meetings
1. Board Meetings: Board Meetings will be held in March, June, September, and December. All board meetings are open to the public, except when the Board is in Executive Session. The Board may go into Executive Session to discuss confidential personnel or legal matters, consistent with law. Any binding action of the Board must be taken in open session following the Executive Session.

Amendment of the King Neighborhood Bylaws

At next month’s meeting, November 12th, we will be discussing a change to the Association’s bylaws. Currently we have a meeting each month that is open to everyone. Only four of the year’s meetings are general meetings so only the board members can vote in 75% of the meetings. In order to encourage participation and empower citizens, we are proposing to make most meetings into general meetings and reserve about four for board meetings. In order to notify the residents, we will be canvassing the neighborhood with postcards. If you can help spread the word, send us your info to info@kingneighborhood.org. If you have any matters that you want discussed at the meeting, let us know that as well. The sooner you send in your topics, the easier to get them on the agenda.
