May 5th and June 2nd Meetings Canceled and Voting Postponed

The May 5th and June 2nd meetings of the King Neighborhood Association are canceled. We will resume our regular meetings on July 7th.

To comply with the City’s Standards and its Open Meetings and Public Records rules, we are postponing the election for expiring KNA board positions to the July 7th meeting. The following KNA board positions will be up for election at that time:

  • Chair (currently Amy Wilson)
  • Secretary (currently Jacquie Walton)
  • At-Large position #1 (currently Kellie Shaw)
  • At-Large position #3 (currently Laverne Martin)

The decision to postpone the elections was based on this analysis by Allen Field, Secretary of the Richmond Neighborhood Association.

Do you know about the African Women’s Coalition?

At the last King Neighborhood Association meeting, members of the African Women’s Coalition talked about the mission of their organization and how you can help.

The African Women’s Coalition provides support services to African immigrants and refugees. African women are especially vulnerable and at risk. Many are single mothers who have several children, have lost their husbands, sons, brothers and fathers to the ravages of war, and must assume positions that were held by men in their traditional cultures.

To volunteer, go to http://www.awcportland.org/volunteer.htm. If you don’t have the time to volunteer, you can donate at http://www.awcportland.org/donation.htm.
