From Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls:
Ladies Rock Camp (LRC) , an exciting and unique opportunity for women 21 and older, has openings available for the LRC session May 13-15, 2011. Presented by The Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls, a northeast Portland non-profit that builds self-esteem through music creation and performance, Ladies Rock Camp was created as a response to women expressing their wish that Rock Camp existed when they were girls.
Now in its eighth season, Ladies Rock Camp, is an opportunity for women to empower themselves and each other as they come together to make music in a positive and encouraging environment. Throughout the weekend, women receive instrument instruction, form a band and work together to write an original song, which they perform at a final LRC showcase on Sunday. All levels of musical skill and experience are welcome. Ladies can choose to learn drums, bass, keyboards, vocals, or guitar. Orientation begins at noon on Friday. The weekend culminates on Sunday afternoon with an amazing show at a local venue, and an after party open to family and friends!
“After spending a weekend at LRC, not only did I surprise myself by learning an instrument, forming a band and playing in a concert, but I felt like there was nothing I could not do,” said Nancy Taffera-Santos, who attended LRC in 2008 and 2009. “After camp I felt so empowered that my performance at work noticeably increased. On top of the boost in self-esteem, I built new personal and professional relationships, as I spent a weekend with amazing women. I wish Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls existed when I was growing up.”
Tuition for camp is $390. All proceeds from Ladies Rock Camp support the programs offered by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls and help to fulfill our commitment to allow every girl interested in our programs the opportunity to participate, regardless of ability pay.
