Letter from Representative Frederick

From Lew Frederick:

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

First, I want to wish everyone a safe, happy, prosperous and productive New Year. Our community faces daunting challenges, but they are human-made challenges, and putting our heads together we can create human-made solutions. I am looking forward to a Legislative session with unique challenges and unique opportunities. I also look
forward to seeing friends and neighbors in Salem. Please stop by if you are in the Capitol.

Over 3,000 bills have already been filed for the upcoming session. For every one, I will seek answers to: How will this make life better, and for whom? Will it make life worse for anyone? If so, for whom, and in what way? The proverbial win/win is nice, but these fundamental questions have to be answered.

Second Saturday Chat

Second Saturday Chat is this Saturday. We meet from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Reflections Coffee Shop/Talking Drum Bookstore, 446 NE Killingsworth (just east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.) Bring your questions and concerns, especially if they are District 43 issues.

As always, special thanks to Gloria for letting us use this space. Reflections is an important community asset. Let’s all be sure to support the business by buying some coffee or treats while we’re there. Reflections Coffee House, 446 NE Killingsworth St., from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 8th.

Campaign News

I continue to need campaign funds to both prepare for the next campaign and to support my effectiveness as a Representative. Please click HERE (https://www.c-esystems.com/lewfrederick/donation.aspx)to make a secure donation of any size via my campaign website. Donations can only be accepted through January 9th, as the session officially begins on January 10th. I will not be able to accept contributions from January 10th until the end of the session.

Finally, I want to pass along this important note from Attorney
General John Kroger:

Oregon has recently received $220 million in federal money to help distressed homeowners avoid foreclosure.

The Mortgage Payment Assistance Program pays the mortgage of a qualified recipient household for an entire year, up to $20,000. If you have suffered a loss of income of 25% or more, this program may help you keep your home. The deadline to apply is January 14, 2011. More information is available at http://www.oregonhomeownerhelp.org/.

In many communities this program has gone unnoticed. These days, everyone knows someone for whom it could make all the difference. Please forward this important information to your friends, family and neighbors by any means you have.

Much of the outreach for this program has been done through email, but we all know that person-to-person contact will be more effective for many of the people who need this assistance. Please help pass it along.

I need you in the halls of the Capitol during the session. As always, we are in this together. Hope to see you this Saturday.
