Second City Alums at Curious Comedy

From Curious Comedy Theater:

We are thrilled to have Stephnie Weir (MadTV) and her amazing husband, Bob Dassie, at Curious this weekend bringing their improvised show WeirDass to Portland for the very first time, this Friday and Saturday.

Both Second City veterans, Stephnie and Bob are my improv heroes and true improv masters. Their shows are always hilarious – full of strong characters woven into a surprising story that will make you wonder how they could possibly make it all up on the spot. But they do.

Mobile Gallery at Last Thursday

From Art on Alberta:

Join Art on Alberta in welcoming its mobile art gallery, a 1960’s teardrop trailer dubbed Red Rover, during June’s Last Thursday event on Northeast Alberta Street. Each month the trailer will present works from local artists. This month’s featured artist, Lauren Grube, will showcase photographs and a nature installation in the unique space on public display through July.

Looking through the gallery windows at her installation, Ms. Grube hopes you will examine your ongoing interaction with nature, yet momentarily within the confines of a metal trailer. The gallery may be seen on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 5:00 to 9:00pm at 2715 Northeast Alberta Street in front of Binks Bar. Thereafter, the exhibit may be seen through July 26 on Northeast 19th Avenue between Going and Wygant Streets.

Art on Alberta plans to bring the trailer to educational locations around the Alberta Arts District and the broader Portland
arts community. We are happy to have Red Rover used as an installation space, a gallery, a tool for art education, and a vehicle to bring art to the community in an unconventional way. Please visit www.artonalberta.org or contact us at info@artonalberta.org to learn more about Art on Alberta and discover how you can engage with the organization. For information about exhibiting in the Red Rover gallery, contact: Alice Orleman and Susannah Kelly at exhibitions@artonalberta.org.

Former CEO Donates Computer Lab to King School

New at King School is the Sam K. Duncan International Media Lab. Today saw its dedication with a visit from the former OfficeMax CEO.

In line with the school’s transformation to an International Baccalaureate program, the state of the art equipment will allow King students to research and collaborate with students of other IB schools around the world. After the official ribbon cutting, there was an all-school assembly, treats, and then classes took turns trying out the new space and equipment on this last day of school. As part of a grant from the Oregon State Department of Education, first year King Principal Patterson plans to hire a technology instructor to get maximum utility from the new asset.

Mr. Duncan wanted to help a school in need and King School seemed a fitting recipient since Dr. King was a great inspirational figure to him growing up in Arkansas. He is now retired after working his way up through the world of retail at ShopKO and Fred Meyer, starting as a clerk in an Albertson’s store.

Garage Sale Tomorrow–Bring Out Your Stuff!

We are still entering registrations as they trickle in for our first Garage Sale Day. It has been a learning experience and we will be much smoother next year. After your sale, let us know how it went and what to do differently. Make sure your sale is listed before tonight by going to the large map page with details.

Tell every last soul you know via Facebook or however people communicate these days to come and tour the sales and while they’re at it, to like the KNA Facebook page.

Registrations received after the deadline may not receive a yard sign due to the cutoff time to print them but you will be listed on the map. Again, let us know how to improve the whole event for next year and what the best date for next year’s sale would be.
