Next week’s Land Use/Transportation meeting: Tri-Met budget, and housing development in our area.

images Concerned about development in our neighborhood? Wondering why so many houses are being built with no porches and ‘closed faces’, such that they discourage neighbor-to-neighbor interaction?
Come join us at next Wednesday’s Land Use and Transportation Committee meeting of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN). We meet at 7 pm here at NECN, 4815 NE 7th Ave.
.
Benjamin Adrian of NECN writes:
We will have a guest presentation Trimet’s budget, and then go into discussions concerning infill development happening around our neighborhoods. You can’t help but notice that things are being built across NECN- houses, apartments, mixed-use, big and small. After we talk about what we have going in, we will talk about what we and our neighborhoods would like to see. Are current developments missing the mark? Is there a site or area that could use more attention or investment?

Our District Planner liaison, Debbie Bischoff, will be there to help identify what opportunities exist in the current Comprehensive Plan Update that could help address and influence the development that our neighborhoods will see in the future.

Portland Center Stage invites you to Cybourne Park

PCS_final_logo_RGBThe King Neighborhood Association is invited to see Clybourne Park! A white community in 1950s Chicago splinters over the black family about to move in. Fast forward to our present day and the same house represents very different demographics, and neighborhood values and tensions. Decades apart, hilarious and horrifying neighbors pitch a battle over territory and legacy that forces us to consider how far our ideas about race have evolved—or not. When our houses become our homes, and our neighborhoods become our identities, what will we do to protect them? And from what? Clybourne Park won the 2012 Tony Award, the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and the 2011 Olivier Award for Best New Play. On the Main Stage at Portland Center Stage from April 6–May 5.

King neighbors get a $10 discount on tickets! See the attached flyer below for details:

Living Well with Chronic Conditions series, at NxNE Health Center

The North by Northeast Community Health Center partnering with Multnomah County Aging & Disability Services to host a 6-week Living Well with Chronic Conditions Workshop:

Living_Well_pic

The 6-week evidence-based program developed by Stanford University is for adults living with one or more chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, HIV/AIDS, high blood pressure, depression, heart disease or chronic pain. The Workshop helps participants take charge of their lives by finding practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discovering better nutrition and exercise choices, understanding new treatment choices, and learning better ways to talk with their doctor and family about their health. People who participate in the workshop feel better, are less limited by their illness and may spend less time at the doctor or in the hospital!

The workshop begins on April 2 and will be held for six weeks, every Tuesday from 9:30 am – noon (except on March 24, when the session will be held from noon – 2:30 pm). To register, or if you have questions, call Sharetta Butcher at (503) 287-4932.
