Over the years, the struggles of Jefferson High School have been a major concern for the local community – but finally a solution has been reached. Beginning in Fall 2011, students entering Jefferson High School as freshmen, will be automatically enrolled in the new Middle College program, and will also become a part of the SEI family. Students will attend both Jefferson and Portland Community College (PCC) to earn dual credits essentially starting college for free. And through their partnership with SEI, Jefferson students will also have an abundance of opportunities, including: tutorial homework support, after school programs, and a one-on-one relationship with a school coordinator. Help SEI expand our services to all Jefferson students.

Portland Education Summit February 7th
The Education Summit is focused on building communities, and ultimately neighborhoods that thrive. The theme of this year’s Portland regional education summit focuses on creating an educational renaissance within every neighborhood in Multnomah County. Systemic challenges require looking beyond the confines of the school building, and working in partnership with the surrounding community. From K-12 and higher education leaders, community activists and parents, to transportation pioneers, business executives and housing advocates, all citizens need to be involved if we are to transform our neighborhoods to benefit all youth.

Self Enhancement, Inc. Seeks Your Support
For many of us, just the mention of Christmas conjures up a world of fond childhood memories.
Unfortunately, it’s not always that way for the scores of children served by SEI. Many are from broken homes, and have families who struggle through the best of times. As the economy has become tougher, their sense of hope for the future has faded.
But SEI’s integrated approach to education is renewing hope in urban youth.
SEI addresses the vicious cycle of inner-city poverty through holistic services and an emphasis on education. And although education may not seem like the most pressing issue this holiday season, for many of these kids earning a degree is their only hope. Education allows them to overcome critical barriers to success – violence, unemployment, sickness and family-crisis.
SEI breaks down these barriers every day. An amazing 100% of SEI kids graduate high school each year. But we cannot ‘go it alone.’ Your donation today will help give hope to a struggling child this holiday season:
• $25 will help pay for vital after school programs
• $50 helps us provide educational field trips
• $100 helps cover the cost of SAT prep courses
I hope we can count on your support!Tony Hopson, Sr., President and CEO
