I wanted to let you know that Occupy St. Johns has decided to have people speak at City Hall about our concerns with 7 Eleven. We will have people talking for then next few meetings. March 21st through April 4th, we have people going. It would be great to have people from other communities as well. If you are interested we have car pools you can join. The City Council meetings start at 9:30am on Wednesdays. March 21st is the first one we will be at, then the 28th and the 4th of April.
Here is the email for the clerk’s office: LaVonne@portlandoregon.gov. I believe this is the email you can send a request to speak at the City Hall meeting. You can hand deliver, fax or mail as well.

To provide a policy for individuals who wish to address City Council.
Individuals must schedule their own Communications.
Deadline: Thursday at 5:00 p.m. to sign up for the following Wednesday Meeting at 9:30 a.m. Holiday deadline schedule is Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
Requests may be hand delivered, emailed, faxed or mailed to the Clerk’s office.
Request should include the date requester wishes to speak, requester’s name, address, phone number and a few sentences regarding the issue.
Requests are placed on the Wednesday Agenda as a “Communication”. Communications are the first item on the Agenda, and the meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.
The requester will have 3 minutes to speak and may also submit written testimony before or at the meeting, please provide 7 copies.
Communications allow the Council to hear issues that interest our citizens, but do not allow an opportunity for dialogue. Since many issues can be resolved directly with the Bureaus, the Clerk’s office recommends that citizens contact a Commissioner’s Office or Bureau for assistance prior to requesting a Communication at the Council meeting.
A total of 5 communications are scheduled per week.
Requesters are limited to one scheduled communication per calendar month.
Requester may schedule no more than two months in advance.
In the event the meeting is cancelled, requester will be notified of the next available open date.
All I can say is what I know…after the nightmare from hell market closed across from our rental on 8th and Killingsworth, life was good! After almost a year a new owner reopened another store and in spite of new face lift (thanks to the city) landscape efforts, cameras on every corner and dillligent owners….the public urination, trash, dope smoking and public drinking is back, maybe not as bad as before but its back and is likely to stay. The owners/employees can not monitor what goes on around the corner and up the street nor are the police ever near/see when activity takes place in spite of being located one block from precinct. What is really sad is to see the neighborhood kids heading to and from the “in their back yard” market numerous times a day with junk food in hand. I called police a gazillion times as well as the liquor inspector, mayors office and whoever else would listen over the matter back then but nothing helped! I haven’t the notion or the drive to do it all over again with this new market….if the 7 Eleven goes in on MLK (also a block from precinct) there will be nothing you can do to stop the b__ll s__t! We also have families and small children crossing the streets here with the busy main street of Killingsworth! Good luck neighboors….your going to need it! GOOD thing…. there are more of you protesting this development then I had help with over all the nonsence that took place here, that along with the store has not been built yet….I’m with ya!
