Workshop Series on Using Video and Social Media

Reach more people! Learn how to tell your stories with video! You can make community media, too!

SmartAccess™ Center at Central Northeast Neighbors Coalition (CNN) Opens October 27th!

What: FREE Orientation to the new SmartAccess™ Center: overview and goals of SmartAccess™ workshops, the history and mission of Portland Community Media, the role that community media plays in civic life and community engagement through civic media, advocacy and storytelling. It’s also a celebration of this new and exciting partnership!

When: Tuesday, October 27th 6:30-8:30 pm. This orientation is required and a prerequisite to participate in any of the workshops below offered at CNN.

Where: Central Northeast Neighbors (CNN) 4415 NE 87th, just north of Sandy Blvd. (the location for all workshops)

SmartAccess™ Center Fall Workshops at CNN

DIY Video: Using Your Camcorder to Produce and Share Videos
DIY Video covers how to effectively use your camcorder or Flip video camera to produce the best possible results. Selected topics covered will include affordable lighting options, consumer grade cameras, inexpensive microphones, and low-cost or free editing software! [Participants need to bring their own camcorder/camera to this interactive workshop.]
Tues., Nov. 3, 6:30 – 8:30 pm or Thurs., Nov. 5 6:30 – 8:30 pm Capacity: 8 participants, 1 session – $10

Social Networking: Using Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn
This workshop is an introduction to using the internet and new media tools to effectively communicate on the web. Participants will be able to set up an online social networking account, using tools such as Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn to share information about their group, cause or organization. [Participants need to have basic keyboard skills and an email address to sign on to services.]

Social Media: Getting Your Videos on the Web
This introductory workshop will help you learn how to upload videos from your camera or other source onto web sites, such as YouTube™ or blip.tv. Participants will learn tips and tricks for shooting, editing, compressing and uploading to the web and how to effectively use the net to increase views and networking opportunities. [Participants should bring a QuickTime clip less than five minutes long that they would like to upload or a sample video can be provided.]

Elevated Coffee Seeks Wine and Beer License

Elevated Coffee in the Vanport Square development at 5261 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, has applied for a beer and wine license to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. The license would allow on-premise sales of malt beverages not more than 14%, wine not more than 21% and cider not more than 10% alcohol. They propose to operate from M-Th, 6am-7pm, F 6am-9pm, and Sat-Sun 7am-9pm and have live and recorded music. Any objections to the application should be directed to the OLCC at 9079 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Portland OR 97222. The license investigator is Charles Ellis, 503-872-5210.

Sweet Thing Bakehouse and Coffee Bar Open on Alberta/MLK

Portland Parks Off Leash Policy Open House

Portland Parks & Recreation’s Dog Off-Leash Open House will be a chance for the community to learn more about how well PP&R’s off-leash program is doing.

PP&R will also introduce the concept of an Off-Leash Advisory Group to help guide the Bureau in addressing ongoing management of its off-leash program. Interest forms will be available during the meeting and afterward at www.portlandparks.org for those who wish to be considered for the advisory group.

Portland, Gresham, and Multnomah County invite you to participate in 7 community meetings in October, November, and December 2009.

Your comments will help us set priorities for the 2010-2015 Consolidated Plan. The Plan will guide how federal resources will be spent locally for the next five years on housing that is affordable to low- and moderate-income households, expanding access to economic opportunities, and programs serving the homeless and people with special needs.
