Free Street Fair?

We don’t know who thought up the Free Street Fair, or put up these fliers in the neighborhood, but we’re intrigued to see what our neighbors turn out this Saturday.

On another topic, there’s no rain in the forecast for the weekend, so if you find yourself with some free time and want to help out the King NA with some canvassing, we have brochures and fliers for our upcoming clean-up and neighborhood garage sale that we’d love your help distributing. We’re looking forward to getting out in the sunshine and saying hi to our neighbors along the way!

You can join us by stopping by our meeting on Saturday morning, between 10 and 11 at Reflections Coffeeshop (446 NE Killingsworth), or by emailing us, or giving Alan a call at 503-880-6848.

King School Students Work on History/Gardening Project

Second and third grade students from the King School SUN afterschool program are participating in a partnership with the Emerson Street Garden to learn gardening while working with neighborhood elders to help transform a vacant neighborhood lot into a community asset.

Sixth through eighth graders are partnering with artist Joe Sneed and students from da Vinci Middle school in a five day-a-week class on N/NE History, Art and Culture. They are collecting stories of local neighborhood history from local residents and incorporating these stories into a design for an archway entrance to the garden.

Eight grade students in the King School Technology and Design course will be working with engineers from the Portland Water Bureau to develop a learning center to be built at the garden to be used for educational opportunities and workshops into the future. The Technology and Design course is part of the International Baccalaureate program at King School.

If you would like to get involved contact Joe Sneed at joe.b.sneed@gmail.com or call 503.995.2632

We Were Here is a tour of places throughout Portland, Oregon where intimately connected friends, lovers, relations, and other significant partners first met. On Sunday, May 15, the pairs will share a dance in the location where they first met, with musical accompaniment, while sharing the story of their relationship with the public.

If you have an interesting story about meeting a parent/child, friend, spouse, or just about anyone who’s had a great impact on you, they would like to hear from you! Please contact them at we.were.here.pdx@gmail.com for more information.
