Kindergarten Round-Ups Fast Approaching!

It’s never too early to start planning for the little ones’ enrollment in kindergarten and pre-kindergarten. Portland Public Schools’ schedule of Kindergarten Round-Up events has been released. At these events, you can meet principals, teachers and school staff, learn how to prepare for kindergarten, and register your student for school. For information about fun readiness activities, go to www.pps.k12.or.us, then click on “Departments” and “Kindergarten.” If you aren’t able to attend a Round-Up event, you can visit your neighborhood school and register before buildings close in late June. Support NECN, Donate!

From the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods:

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

With your participation and support, we engaged thousands of neighbors to work together on opportunities to strengthen the inner Northeast Portland community. And, we even had a couple of fun social celebrations!

Serving as a community resource hub, the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization, supported community members and neighborhood associations as they weighed in on timely and critical issues including the Portland Plan, Urban Renewal Areas, the Education System, City Code, Cell WiMax Towers, Police Accountability, and more. We helped neighborhood-specific efforts too!

Self Enhancement, Inc. Seeks Your Support

From SEI:

For many of us, just the mention of Christmas conjures up a world of fond childhood memories.

Unfortunately, it’s not always that way for the scores of children served by SEI. Many are from broken homes, and have families who struggle through the best of times. As the economy has become tougher, their sense of hope for the future has faded.

But SEI’s integrated approach to education is renewing hope in urban youth.

SEI addresses the vicious cycle of inner-city poverty through holistic services and an emphasis on education. And although education may not seem like the most pressing issue this holiday season, for many of these kids earning a degree is their only hope. Education allows them to overcome critical barriers to success – violence, unemployment, sickness and family-crisis.

SEI breaks down these barriers every day. An amazing 100% of SEI kids graduate high school each year. But we cannot ‘go it alone.’ Your donation today will help give hope to a struggling child this holiday season:
• $25 will help pay for vital after school programs
• $50 helps us provide educational field trips
• $100 helps cover the cost of SAT prep courses
I hope we can count on your support!
