Portland Plan – Inspiring Communities Series Begins Dec. 1st

Presented by the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, City Club of Portland and Portland State University, the Portland Plan – Inspiring Communities Series offers collaborative approaches to city policy-making and planning from national experts and local panelists. The series will highlight how other cities are tackling economic development, community health, education and equity, as well as lessons on how to create complete communities and make the most of our natural systems. The Portland Plan – Inspiring Communities Series can help us think critically about the next steps we should take as a community to become more sustainable, equitable and economically secure.

Community Cycling Center Benefit December 9th

Hello community peoples,

Umpqua Bank Alberta will be putting forward our first, annual Spirit of the Season Benefit on Thursday, December 9th from 6 to 8 PM. This year the event will benefit the Community Cycling Center. Treats will be provided by Petite Provence and spirits from Cork Wine Shop. Representatives from the Community Cycling Center will be in attendance to discuss how interested residents can get involved with the center and support the Holiday Bike Drive.

Early-Bird Native Plant Workshop

Native Plants for the Urban Garden:

Come learn about the benefits of gardening with natives and get detailed information about the characteristics and growing requirements of native plants commonly used in Naturecaped yards. We’ll show you the various features of common microclimates found in urban landscapes and highlight which native plants are most appropriate for each one. Equipped with the knowledge of each plant’s desired growing conditions, and what species do best in certain microclimates, you’ll be prepared to choose which plants will work best in your own yard!

King PTA Online Bookfair Through December 1st

It was good seeing many of you at the Barnes and Noble in-store bookfair last Saturday. If you couldn’t make it or if you are shopping for gifts to ship to friends and relatives this season, Barnes and Noble will continue contributing to the King PTA for every purchase online until midnight Wednesday, December 1st. Go to http://www.bn.com/bookfair and enter the bookfair ID # of 10252807 at checkout.

The purpose and goal of this fundraiser is to raise a significant amount of money, at least over $1200 in book purchases, which would benefit teachers at King to buy material that will support upcoming classroom projects and give the PTA the ability to support King School in other needed areas as well.
