Fall Oregon Tradeswomen Career Class

Women interested in the trades should check out the Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc, fall class. It’s a free seven-week training – two-thirds of last years’ graduates now have jobs in the trades (as carpenters, foresters, green construction technicians, boilermakers, and much more). The OTI office and classroom is just up the street on Alberta (btwn 17th and 18th). Classes are three days a week. Registration is open right now, and the fall class starts on October 13th. Contact Dawn Jones at 503-335-8200 x31 or dawn@tradeswomen.net, or check out the site at www.tradeswomen.net for more details.

TriMet Open Houses/Public Hearings

TriMet is proposing making changes to frequency of 2-4 minutes on about two dozen bus lines in non-rush hour to close a $3.5 million budget gap.

Additionally, TriMet is proposing to change Fareless Square to rail-only (MAX and Portland Streetcar), since four MAX lines will serve Fareless Square when the MAX Green Line opens in September. Most trips within Fareless Square could easily be taken on rail.

Join us at an Open House/Public Hearing and learn about proposed bus frequency reductions effective in November and the proposal to limit Fareless Square to rail-only. Share your comments and suggestions and talk to TriMet staff. We want your feedback!

King School to Receive Grants

s_King%20picThe King PTA was awarded two grants so far this year. A grant from the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability for reusable flatware to replace the district standard disposable flatware is intended as a first step to make King a model of sustainability that reflects the values of the community.

The Portland Schools Foundation fully funded the PTA’s request for outreach and involvement for $7530. This money, combined with $1443 raised last year will fund a reader board sign at the school, Spanish translation, dinner, and childcare at meetings and flyers for door-to-door canvassing to connect the community to the school and increase parent involvement. To learn how you can get involved with the King PTA contact info@kingpta.org or come to the booth at the Good in the NeighborHood festival Saturday June 27th, Noon to 5pm at King School Park.
